BESUT: The planned RM2.4 billion East Coast Expressway 3 (LPT3) connecting Gemuruh in Kuala Nerus, Terengganu to Tumpat, Kelantan will provide huge benefits to motorists from both states.
Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman said that the 171km LPT3, would offer better communication and easy traffic flow, especially during peak seasons like festival holidays.
“Residents and visitors passing through the districts of Besut and Setiu and those driving past Kelantan will be able to travel faster and more comfortably, once it’s ready.
“We are now awaiting approval from the Federal government to begin construction of the highway as soon as possible,” he said after closing a New Terengganu Transformation carnival in Jertih.
Present were Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh, who is also Besut Member of Parliament; state executive councilors Nawi Mohamad and Datuk Muhamad Pehimi Yusof; Kuala Besut assemblyman Tengku Zaihan Che Ku Abdul Rahman; Jabi assemblyman Mohd Iskandar Jaafar; and Besut district officer Datuk Abdul Rahim Jusoh.
Razif said the Federal Government realised the need for the LPT3 for the benefit of the people in Terengganu and Kelantan.
“Just like the LPT1 and LPT2, the LPT3 too will be the favoured route of travel with its benefits, despite the occasional hiccups of accidents. “For LPT2 alone, a total of 25,000 vehicles have been recorded daily passing through it.
The figure reaches up to 100,000 vehicles a day during festive holidays,” he said. The LPT is connected by the Kuala Lumpur-Karak highway. The LPT1 is a 174km-long, closed toll, four-lane expressway built in 2004 that connects Karak to Jabor in Pahang.
It passes through Lanchang, Mentakab, Temerloh, Chenor, Maran, Sri Jaya, Gambang and Kuantan. The 184km LPT2 built in 2015 begins in Jabur and passes Chenih, Chukai, Kijal, Kerteh, Paka, Dungun, Bukit Besi, Ajil and Telemong before ending in Kampung Gemuruh, Terengganu.
