All hands on deck: KD Perdana berthing at the new maritime base at Middle Rocks. |
The fast-attack craft and several other vessels are tasked with patrolling the waters there to ensure maritime security and safety.
KD Perdana was the first RMN vessel to berth at the base when it arrived there on Thursday, 10 days after the base was opened by Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar.
On Twitter, RMN chief Admiral Tan Sri Ahmad Kamarulzaman Ahmad Badaruddin congratulated the crew of the vessel.
“Congratulations @KDPERDANA3501 the first RMN vessel to berth at the Abu Bakar Maritime Base in Middle Rocks,” he tweeted.
When contacted, he said KD Perdana would be making regular stops at the base.
The Middle Rocks outcrop was awarded to Malaysia in 2008 by the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which at the same time handed the nearby Pulau Batu Puteh to Singapore.
