The right wing Malay movement said Malindo Air, a low-cost carrier, which is largely owned by foreigners, had been given the “chance” to compete “head on” with the national carrier by landing at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) when it is supposed to land at KLIA2.
“The term given for Malindo Air’s license is to operate as a low-cost carrier, landing at KLIA2 and not at KLIA.
“This shows that the rule and the terms for the requirements had been breached by Malindo Air,” said Perkasa’s information chief, Datuk Ruslan Kasim.
“MAS, as the national carrier should be given the priority, and not a foreign-owned airline company,” said Ruslan who then asked if there is a hidden agenda behind the issue.
The group also echoed the call by Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi who urged Malaysia Airport Holding Berhad (MAHB) to clarify if the airline had paid its airport tax amounting to RM70 million this year.
Yesterday, Puad asked if the airline had been given special treatment and urged the Transport Ministry to explain the situation and take necessary action against the airline.
