KUALA LUMPUR: The best-laid plans for a holiday with family and friends are now all up in the air for a woman who found herself one of many let down by Rayani Air.
Instead of alcohol-free cocktails on the beach, Siti Fatimah Mohd Razi, 30, is now forced to fend off angry friends and co-workers after she was unable to get a refund from the troubled airline.
"In February, I booked air tickets for 22 people to Langkawi for a holiday in September but found out last month that the airline was suspended.
"I went to their office a few times before they handed me a post-dated cheque for the full refund amount of RM2,205, to be cashed in on June 30," she said at a press conference Tuesday.
However, when Siti Fatimah tried to cash the cheque, it bounced. "I went to their office the same day but it was closed," said the employee at the Rela headquarters in Jalan Duta.
Siti Fatimah said while some of her friends understood the situation, many demanded their money back.
She said many of them had also paid for reservations at hotels and transportation in advance. "I come here to prove my innocence and show that I am not a cheat," she said.
Siti Fatimah was speaking to reporters at the press conference held by MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong.
Chong said he has received numerous complaints from customers of the airline, and hoped that other airlines are subjected to more stringent checks before being allowed to do business.
"In this case, my lawyer and I will be looking to see what kind of legal assistance can be given to Siti Fatimah," he said.
