TUMPAT: The government has disbursed RM1.2 million to repair and
improve facilities at several mosques and surau in Pengkalan Kubor.
Kelantan Umno liaison chairman Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed said from
the amount, RM500,000 was allocated to Simpangan Mosque, RM300,000 for
Pak Keral Mosque, RM300,000 for Felda Mosque, RM50,000 for Haji Daud
surau and another RM50,000 for Mat Amin surau.
Mustapa said the allocation was approved by Deputy Prime Minister Tan
Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, three days after problems concerning the ailing
condition of several mosques and surau in the constituency were raised.
“The Barisan Nasional government is concerned about the well-being of
the people and their interests. For example, the deputy prime minister
did not hesitate to consider and approve the disbursement of monies for
repair or renovation works.
“On behalf of Kelantan Umno, I am grateful towards Muhyiddin’s kind
gesture,” said Mustapa at a press conference after presenting a cheque
to Haji Daud surau committee members.
Mustapa said at the same time, the allocation would indirectly spur local house builders’ businesses in the constituency.
“The government have always looked into expanding job opportunities.
The businesses of tukang rumah (house builders) for example, can benefit
from carrying repair works at the mosques and surau.”
Haji Daud surau’s imam, Muhammad Aziz said he was grateful with the
government’s allocation to repair and improve prayer facilities.
“Many of the surau in Pengkalan Kubor also serve as religious schools
for the locals. I am happy to see the government acknowledges our needs
and generous in its assistance,” said Muhammad.
