Boy wore same uniform for last four years

All soled out: Sholi trying on a new shoe during the ‘Back to School’ programme.
KUALA TERENGGANU: Year Four pupil Sholi Dollah Mohd Yusuf was all smiles when he received cash aid to buy school uniforms to replace the old one that he has been wearing for the past four years.

The SK Seri Budiman pupil said he had been wearing the same uniform since Year One.

“My school uniform is already worn out,” said Sholi, who is grateful to God and everyone who made this day possible.

“With the cash aid, I will also buy a new set of uniform for my younger brother who will be in Year Two,” said the cheerful and excited Sholi.

He was among the 80 poor pupils who received cash aid to buy up to three school uniforms each.

Apart from school uniforms, the kids also received a school bag each, books and stationery products for the new school term which starts on Jan 3 in Terengganu.

The cash aid is provided by the Eastern Pacific Industrial Corporation Berhad, a Government-linked organisation which helped identify the 80 needy students from four schools – SK Seri Budiman, SK Tengku Ampuan Mariam, SK Losong and SK Gong Tok Nasek – for the back-to-school programme.

For the organisation’s Corporate Planning & Communications general manager Abdul Adzim Abdul Hamid, the experience of seeing the joy and excitement on the faces of the pupils provided the employees with a good feeling.

“For us, this is just great. We have been doing this for seven consecutive years for 80 students in Kemaman, but for the first time, we have extended the programme to Kuala Terengganu.

“Each year, the company allocates RM100,000 for pupils and we spend about RM625 on each pupil.

“The idea is to ease the financial burden of their parents and to provide the children with a good start to their school year,” he said.

He added that the programme had benefited some 640 pupils since it started seven years ago.

Abdul Adzim said 80 pupils from four schools in Kemaman district would also benefit from the programme.

The schools are SK Kijal, SK Kemasek, SK Telok Kalong and SK Kampung Chabang.
