Four Pantai Kundor families yet to receive new houses

KOTA BHARU: Four families in Pantai Kundor here have yet to move into new houses promised by the Kelantan Government after giant sea waves battered and destroyed their homes early this year.

Pengkalan Chepa Umno division chief Datuk Zaluzi Sulaiman said Monday the waves that hit the area between Jan 25 and Feb 11 left at least 45 people from seven families homeless, forcing them to stay with their relatives since then.

"Only three new houses have been built, but the other four families will have to wait until next year before getting new houses because of the monsoon season beginning next month.

"They need the houses urgently, otherwise they will have to squat at their relatives houses for another six months," said Zaluzi after he received complaints from the families recently.

He said the state government must honour its promise, failing which he will refer the case to the Federal Government for action.

On Feb 10, Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob said the state government and the Kelantan Islamic Religious Council would help build new homes for the affected residents.

He said that since they could no longer live there because it is dangerously close to the coastline, the state government had identified an area to build the new homes.

At the same time, Ahmad urged the Federal Government to immediately start building wave breakers, saying the project had been approved under the 11th Malaysia Plan.
