KOTA BHARU: Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) will build GiatMARA Prima Melor and a Ulul Albab MARA Junior Science College (MRSM) in Ketereh to meet the needs of skill-based education and to build a 'Quranic” generation.
Its chairman Datuk Dr Awang Adek Hussein said the GiatMARA Prima Melor would be built at Padang Mokkan, Peringat here, on a 2.338-hectare site at a cost of RM11.65 million.
"The project which will commence this month and expected to complete in October next year, will be able to accommodate 100 trainees at any one time.
"Five courses namely automotive technology, motorcycle repair, cookery and buffet service, short and and specialised courses in providing life-long learning to the communities will be offered," he said at the simultaneous groundbreaking ceremonies for GiatMARA Prima Melor and Ulul Albab MRSM at Kampung Padang Salim, Melor here today.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak who was on a one-day working visit to Kelantan today officiated the ground breaking ceremonies.
Also present were International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, Deputy Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Senator Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki and Ketereh UMNO Division chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa.
Commenting on the Ulul Albab MRSM Ketereh, Awang Adek said this was the fifth school in the country to follow the Ulul Albab MRSM education programme where students are trained to memorise and recite the Quran.
"The school is the sixth MRSM in Kelantan after MRSM Pengkalan Chepa, MRSM Pasir Tumboh, MRSM Jeli, MRSM Kuala Krai and MRSM Tumpat, and it is the first in the state to offer the Ulu Albab programme.
"It is built at a cost of RM120 million and is expected to be ready by July 2020,” he said adding the Ulul Albab MRSM schools have so far produced 1,479 huffaz among its students.
