KOTA BHARU: The Department of Environment (DOE) has built five tube-wells, each costing RM250,000, as part of the measures to address the problem of peat forest fire in Beris Lalang, Bachok, the Kelantan State Assembly was told today.
State Local Government, Housing, Health and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Fattah Mahmood said the department had also built 13 check dams, costing RM12,000 each, to provide alternative water supply to facilitate fire fighting operations.
Besides conducting talks on the dangers of peat fires to residents in affected areas, sign-boards are also placed at various locations to warn residents against open burning, he added.
