PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s five research universities made it to the top 100 of the QS University Rankings: Asia 2015 for the fourth consecutive year, with Universiti Malaya and Universiti Sains Malaysia ranking 29th and 49th respectively.
Universiti Teknologi Malaysia was ranked 61st, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia 56th and Universiti Putra Malaysia 66th.
QS head of research Ben Sowter said Malaysia placed heavy emphasis on education and innovation.
“Malaysia demonstrates a serious commitment to improve its regional and global competitiveness,” he said.
According to Second Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh, this was due to the hard work by all higher education staff.
“Let’s build from this and continue soaring upwards,” he told The Star.
Sowter said 507 institutions were evaluated for the 2015 rankings, with 493 being ranked and 300 made it to the published list that saw the National University of Singapore topping the list.
